What I Ate for Lunch and Other Such Domestic Nonsense.

See, I bought myself a lovely food processor for Christmas but left it in its basement hidey hole because I also bought myself a slow cooker for Christmas (yes, after 22 1/2 years of marriage, one gets extremely practical). I didn't put it under the tree for myself because I felt a little greedy. But a couple of nights ago I decided to justify both purchases by making a fabulously healthy comfort dinner for the whole family, a gorgeous minestrone from a recipe I found online. Can you think of a better way to justify my additions to my already overabundant kitchen appliance collection. Besides, who needs counter space?

Anyhoo, the minestrone was yummy and comforting and VEGAN. Never before have I equated vegan and comfort. You know, I normally equate vegan and Moby.

So much for the What I Ate for Lunch business.

In other Lemony news, my dear daughter Emily FINISHED HER COLLEGE APPLICATIONS! WOO HOO! That's an albatross off my back! Well, almost. There's a small task she still has to complete for the University of Colorado but it's not due for a month. So I'm BREATHING again. I'll breathe better when she gets that last bit o' whatever done for CU. I'll breathe using more than 2 % of my lung capacity when she gets accepted somewhere. We'll find out right around the unholy triumverate of my birthday, Spring Break and when Emily and her school band go to Disneyland BY BUS. Eight hundred and twenty-two miles STRAIGHT. In a bus full of teenagers. I'll give you a moment to digest that thought.

At last, my little daughter's going on a band trip and I'm not jealous in the very least.

All in all, there is comfort in this world.

I take it you're not chaperoning the band trip?

Funny, with all the volunteering I've done for my kids, I've never chaperoned a band trip. Not after I heard the band teacher made the chaperones sit up all night out in the hotel hallway.

And what in the hell is up with that Mickey Mouse photo?

I have a juicer. Any ideas on what I should juice? I have read some recipes but I'm still lost. It's a great juicer but very under-used for the amount we spent on it!
