We got two feet of snow last Thursday. In one morning. It was AWESOME.
Being that Colorado worships snow so much that nobody plows, we had to hunker down for a day and a half until the snow melted off the streets.
Mr. Lemony and I braved the snow at 8:00 AM to load up on comforting snow day provisions. The kids were on Spring Break and are old enough to be left at home on their own. They slept in and had no idea we were gone.

I wore gloves for the first time all Winter. Except technically, it's Spring.

That blinding white light behind the grocery bags is the blizzard whiteout. One needs heavy duty shades all year around these parts.

I grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch. We dipped them in rich red soup. Inspired by the picture on the soup box, I topped the soup with whipped goat cheese and black beans. Mmmm mmmm good.

We snuggled under throws on the couch and watched DVD's. We relived some delightful BBC Peter Rabbit stories that we loved when the kids were little. We sang along with last year's biggest Bollywood hit. We adored the movie my daughter gave me for my birthday. And we thoroughly enjoyed some Dead Like Me. A fine time was had by all.

Ria stuck her snout in the snow.

We don't eat a lot of red meat but for Snow Day, we made an exception. I roasted this all day with root vegetables in the slow cooker. Comfort food defined.

We decided to get extra comfy and drink plenty of soothing wine. Colorado is quaint in that you have to buy anything stronger than standard beer at a liquor store. Shopping at said liquor store at 8:30 AM feels like going to a bar for breakfast. Completing the theme, I slipped in the snow and face planted in the booze shop's parking lot. Good thing Mr. Lemony was carrying the precious, breakable wine.

This has nothing to do with the story but I need to brag about my basil. Not only is it alive, but I saved it from the jaws of death. This is notable because I don't have a green thumb, I have a black thumb.
So now it's Tuesday and the snow is nearly GONE. We've been eating remorseful (yet delicious) salads to make up for Snow Day's calorie overload.
Now I am SO ready for the return of last week's pre-snow 75 degree weather.

What an awesome snow day! And I must say, I LUV your basil. I have a "thing" for basil...all sorts of basil. The purplish kind, them lemony kind *sigh* I haven't planted ANY since we moved a year ago. I haven't had a garden at all. Yours looks fabulous & I feel so inspired now :P
I am so glad to see that someone knows how to really enjoy a snow day!
What a lovely day!
Mmmmm - love Ria in the snow - labs just groove on it - I know my Josie did. And my precious Melba loved it more than any other dog I think. do yu think there is snow in doggy heaven?
Wow, snow. In spring? I don't think I could handle that!!!
I love days like that.
And I can't help but notice the magazine you picked up for fun reading.
LOVE your bags!!!
I thought of you when the news was showing Denver. I bet the wine made it all the better. Hee.
Your basil looks great.
Mine? Made some tasty pesto.
We still have drifts in our yard and a headless snowman.
More snow tomorrow???
That crap was supposed to come down here... thank you very much for keeping it all to yourself. Seriously. The last time we had two feet of snow here upon waking one morning was the freaking day before the kids were supposed to go back to school after the two week winter break. The kids were home a freaking extra WEEK. It was not pleasant. Not at all. So keep it there. I'm just sayin'...
You know how to celebrate snow days! Wow!
That basil is totally high cuisine-worthy.
Sounds like a great snow day to me. The Pacific Roasted Red Pepper Soup is my absolute favorite, but very hard to find around here.
You sure know how to celebrate a Snow Day...!
This sounds like a wonderful day. My family has only had one good snow day since we moved into the ayatollah compound six years ago. This is why I wish to build a mosque-to-the-stars in Aspen.
What a great-looking meal! (Or prep for a meal.) But man -- do the grocery bags have to nag us now? I mean, isn't it enough that you are using re-usable bags? Do they have to be pretentious and scolding so that we'll feel guilty and use them? :)
